Hi there! As someone who loves to bake, I'm often trying to think of unique flavors for my baked creations. Don't get me wrong... I definitely love the classics - strawberry, chocolate and vanilla. But sometimes you just want something different! In this blog I'm going to talk about some of the unique flavors I've baked with. In episode 6 of Kids Baking Championship (season 5) I made mini guava bundt cakes to give the judges a little taste of Hawaii. My grandparents have a strawberry guava tree at their house and every summer my grandma makes jars and jars of her strawberry guava jam to give to family and friends. For those who haven't had a chance to try strawberry guava, it tastes a little bit like strawberry combined with passionfruit. When I'm not able to get my hands on the actual fruit, I buy the puree from the market. The Perfect Puree (https://www.perfectpuree.com/) makes an awesome guava puree. I like to reduce the puree with some sugar to get a nice intense guava flavor. Another flavor that I love to bake with is yuzu. I discovered yuzu when we went to Japan this past spring. Yuzu is a Japanese citrus fruit that is about the size of a tangerine. Unlike a tangerine, you don't eat it as a fruit because it's really sour and tart. It's hard to find the actual fruit so I use yuzu syrup in my baked goods. Yuzu macarons are soooo yummy! I've also made yuzu buttercream for my chocolate cakes.... soooo good and a unique but delicious flavor combination. What are some unique flavors that you've baked with? I can't wait to hear from you!
